Tobago – Pigeon Point Beach & Nylon Pools

Tobago – Pigeon Point Beach & Nylon Pools

Our last island stop on our 7 day Celebrity Summit cruise was Tobago. We were all very excited to see the island as no one in our group had ever been there before. This is quite surprising considering we have people in our group that have cruised the Caribbean for more than 20 years!! That is a lot of ports of call, but Tobago was a first!

The port of Scarborough, Tobago

We had done a little research online and through our Twitter followers and it seemed that Pigeon Point Beach was going to be our best option. As we got off the ship we were lucky enough to find a cab driver right away that had a bus big enough for all 26 of us! So we all nestled in to our cab and set off to the beach!

When we arrived everyone had to pay a small entrance fee…which I believe was around $3 USD but trust me it is well worth the cash! Pigeon Point is extremely

well maintained and absolutely beautiful. As you drive up the road to the beach entrance you are surrounded by a lush tropical landscape with huge palm trees, very picturesque.

As we walked onto the white sand beach we realized we should have gotten to the beach a little earlier in the morning because it was packed with people from our cruise ship. This was the first island on our trip where we actually saw a lot of people, this could possibly be because there are only a few beaches that are recommended on the island,

and because the ship didn’t offer too many excursions this day. Whatever the reason may be we realized we were going to have a tough time finding a good spot for all 26 of us.

Pigeon Point Beach

So we walked to the end of the peninsula and found that on the other side there was plenty of room to spread out. Which later we realized was because it was VERY windy. Great for water sports such as kite surfing, wind surfing, and jet skiing, which we saw a lot of. Not great for relaxing. Note: get to Pigeon Point early if you have a large group!

Since it was so windy & a little cloudy, which made it hard to lay in the sand, some of us decided to take a glass bottom boat ride. It lasted an hour and half, cost $15 and was well worth the money. The boat took us out to Bucco Reef where you could snorkel, stay on the boat and look at the sea life through the glass bottom boat, or lay out on the top deck and enjoy the view & the sun, which several of us opted for. Since it was windy the day we were there the snorkeling was less than ideal. Their weren’t a lot of fish around and since fins weren’t provided, most of the time was spent hanging on to the rope behind the boat so that we wouldn’t float too far away. On the bright side it did give us one good workout on our cruise! We really enjoyed the boat ride and our last stop which was the Nylon Pools.

The glass bottom boat

At the Nylon Pools we were way out in the ocean looking back at Tobago, which is a beautiful site. The water was so shallow we could stand in it and it only came up to our waists. We were told by our guides that the sand we were standing on was actually made of coral that had been crushed over the years. They also told us it was a great exfoliator…which we all tried out. And it is in fact a great exfoliator! Who needs to spend money at a spa when you can just go to Tobago, take a boat to the Nylon Pools and rub crushed coral all over yourself?

After about a half hour in the pools it was time to head back to the beach. By this time the sun was out and the beautiful beach on the other side of the peninsula had started to clear out a little, so we made our way over

and established our territory. What an absolutely gorgeous beach! White side, lush greens, palm trees, bars/restaurants (get the local beer Carib – which is made in Trinidad & Tabago – Travel Global, Drink Local!), and a picturesque thatched roof dock. We enjoyed our last island day on the beach and in the water, Carib’s & Stag’s in hand! No one wanted to leave this piece of paradise!

Tobago we love you and hope to be back soon. Until then we will look for Carib & Stag and drink it thinking of you. Travel Global, Drink Local! Cheers!
