Today’s #TravelTuesday blog is by guest contributor Jessalynn Strauss. Long time Team Cocktail friend/cruiser/rum & beer aficionado, Jessie has been to Vegas more in a year than anyone we know. She swears it was for research for her dissertation…ok…whatever you say! So here’s a little insider info from her last trip to Sin City!
GETTING THE TEAM TOGETHER IN VEGAS
My friends live all across the country, so when we get together, we like to pick somewhere that’s easy for everyone to get to and guaranteed that we’ll all have a lot of fun while we’re there. The obvious choice: Las Vegas!
This year I was planning to meet three friends from Oregon (where I went to grad school) in Vegas for an academic conference. When my longtime friend and Vegas travel buddy Michael heard about the trip, he decided to join us too. I flew in from Ohio on a Friday night and the rest of the “team” joined me on Saturday morning.
Vegas is a great place to get a group of people to get together because there’s something for everyone. For instance, I learned on a previous trip that if you have a vegetarian friend, Vegas’s buffets are a great option where everyone can get what they want. (My favorites are the buffets at Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, and Main Street Station.)
You can also make a pretty cheap trip of it in Vegas because hotel rates are so reasonable right now. My favorite “bargain” hotels are Monte Carlo and Flamingo – great value and great location on the Las Vegas Strip. Another great bargain option is the downtown Fremont Street area, where I like to stay at Golden Nugget or Fitzgeralds.
And of course, Vegas is a place where not only can you have your cocktail and drink it too, but you can ALSO walk down the street with it! If you’re looking to drink a cocktail while you walk, I recommend that you avoid the overly large (and overly priced) frozen drinks marketed to tourists. Especially in the summer, those things will melt before you can drink ‘em (even for the most accomplished drinkers) and you’ll be left holding a plastic guitar full of syrupy, watered-down alcohol. Instead, pick up a regular-sized margarita from a Strip-side bar like Cabo Wabo or Margaritaville.
But wherever you stay, and whatever you eat and drink when you’re there – don’t forget to pack your Team Cocktail Vegas shirt!
Are you going to Vegas soon? Why not get your own Team Cocktail Vegas shirt? Available in both men’s and women’s! Hot Sun, Cold Drinks, Late Nights…that’s how Team Cocktail does Vegas baby!
