Holiday Rum Cocktails

It is officially the holiday season!  If you live in the higher latitudes snow has probably begun to fall, fireplaces are on, Christmas lights are lighting up the houses in your neighborhood and holiday parties are filling up your social calendar.  Well why not spice up those holiday parties with a few rum cocktails that are sure to get everyone in the spirit.

These recipes will not only get you in the holiday spirit but use our favorite island spirit, RUM!  Now as much as I wish I could take credit for these delicious cocktails, I can’t.  These are from our friend and rum expert Robert Burr.

Rob, his wife Robin and their son Robert travel the world in search of the finest rums.  Together they publish Rob’s Rum Guide as well as host the annual Rum Renaissance Caribbean Cruise and the  Miami Rum Renaissance Festival, which is where we first met these rum experts!

We are happy to know them and now to share a couple of recipes that are going to be the hit of your party.  You’re welcome!

Shipwrecked Toddy

The Shipwrecked Todday

(serves 4)

  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 cup Brinley’s Shipwreck spiced rum (or use your favorite spiced rum)
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon schnapps

In a medkum saucepan over medium heat combine all ingredients and heat through.  Do not boil.  Mull for 45-60 minutes.  Serve warm with cinnamon sticks or nutmeg to garnish.

Pom Passion Punch

(combine ingredients in a large bowl)

  • 6 parts Welch’s passionfruit juice
  • 2 parts pure pomegranate juice
  • 1 part fresh lime juice
  • 4 parts Jamaican aged rum
  • 4 parts Barbadian aged rum
  • several healthy dashes of orange bitters

Add large chunks of ice and stir the mixture gently until well chilled.  Garnish with thin orange slices and white grapes.  Ladle into punch cups with some medium ice cubes.

Option: rum lovers might add a thin floater of dark overproof rum to their glass for extra good measure.  Yes, Please!

Pom Passion Punch

We would love to know what you think of these tasty cocktails!  We hope your holiday parties are full of fun and if not, well bring the fun with some rum drinks.  As Rob says “Rum is Fun.”

Cheers!
