Nashville Nook Highlights the Nashville Predators

Nashville Predators

It’s the NHL playoffs y’all! The Nashville Predators are clawing their way through the competition already, starting with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Music City was first introduced to the wonderful world of ice hockey in the fall of 1962! It started off with a minor league team called the Dixie Flyers in the Eastern Hockey League from 1962-1971. From there they took on many different names/franchises and were a part of a variety of leagues throughout the years. They finally entered the National Hockey League (NHL) as The Predators in 1998. That’s the team we have grown to know and love to this day!

The Preds record for the 2016-2017 regular season was 82 GP; 41-29-12. If you are unfamiliar with hockey stats, this means they played 82 games total, won 41 of those games, lost 29 games, and 12 games were lost in overtime or a shootout.

The Preds landed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the second Wild Card team (seed 8) based on their points from their regular season record. They were forced to face the number 1 seed, the Chicago Blackhawks, in the first round of playoffs. The Predators and the Blackhawks have met three out of the past eight seasons in the first round of playoffs. If the Blackhawks win, it would be their fourth championship in the last eight seasons. Even though the Blackhawks appear to be the better team, the Preds are proving to be determined to not let them win again this year!

Thursday April 13th kicked off the first game and the Preds had a 1-0 victory over the Blackhawks.

In the second game, Saturday April 15th, the Preds iced the Blackhawks again with a 5-0 win giving them a 2-0 lead in the series.

Carrie Underwood came out to sing the national anthem at the third game in Nashville on Tuesday April 18th. We think she gave Nashville just the confidence they needed to win another game 3-2 over Chicago.

TONIGHT the Predators and the Blackhawks enter game four of the series. With the Preds up 3-0, the Blackhawks must win tonight in order to stay in the competition. But if (and when) they fail, the Preds will move on to the next round!!

Lets get ’em boys!! WE STAND WITH YOU!

So Preds Nation, keep your FANG fingers crossed!!
